Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 VII Review with Detailed Specifications and

Sony has also introduced a new leather-look body case for the RX100 series (LCJ-RXK) which includes a lens jacket and shoulder strap to protect the camera from bumps and shocks. It provides easy access to the microphone jack and USB terminal which enables charging and image transfers without the need to remove the case. If you want a camera that’s fast enough to shoot fast-moving subjects – wildlife, sports, or just your kids – and small enough to fit inside a coat pocket, then there’s simply no better option currently on the market than the Sony RX100 VII.

Here are two 100% crops which have been Saved as Web – Quality 50 in Photoshop. The out-of-the camera images are just a little soft and ideally benefit from some further sharpening in a program like Adobe Photoshop. You still can’t use the menu system in this way, though, press the on-screen icons, or even scroll through images during playback, a la smartphones, although strangely you can double-tap images during playback to zoom in, then scroll around to look at the finer details. Sony RX100 VII features both Contrast Detection and Phase Detection autofocus (AF) systems which ensures speed and accuracy of focusing in most situations. For those of you who loves shooting selfies, self or group photos, Sony RX100 VII will make your life easier with its Selfie friendly screen.

The Sony Cyber-shot RX100 VII allows you to focus on a subject that is 8cms away from the camera when the lens is set to wide-angle. Here are some 100% crops which show the noise levels for each ISO setting for both JPEG and Raw formats. They work in just the same incredibly effective way as on the Alpha range, so if you’ve previously used a recent Alpha camera, you won’t be surprised by how well the Sony RX100 VII can lock onto and track a moving subject, be it a human being or an animal. And if that isn’t fast enough for you, there’s even a headline grabbing 90fps frame rate available, albeit with a number of significant caveats. As you’d expect, the Sony RX100 VII continues to use a relatively large 13.2 x 8.8mm CMOS sensor as employed by previous models in the series. Going back to the Sony RX100 VII’s lens just for a moment – it’s still the same mm optic as on the Mark VI, which offers much slower maximum apertures of f/2.8 at 24mm (compared with f/1.8 on the Mark V) and f/4.5 at 200mm (compared with f/2.8 on the Mark V).

This is the same sensor technology employed in the flagship Alpha A9 mirrorless cameras, which can shoot as 20fps with no blackout during each frame thanks to also using the same stacked sensor technology. Sony certainly seem to think so, at least at the high end of the market, with the RX100 VII following hot on the heels of 2018’s RX100 VI model. The 2019 edition retains the core specs of its predecessor – 20 megapixels, mm zoom lens, pop-up electronic viewfinder and a touchscreen LCD – but made it much faster. The RX100 VII offers 90fps single burst shooting – yes, 90fps – with the AF point and exposure locked at the first frame, or a still very impressive 20fps with black-out free continuous AF/AE, just like on the flagship Alpha A9. There are also “slower” 60fps and 30fps rates available if 90fps is too fast for you.

Physical Dimensions of Sony RX100 VII

Another group of users who will take advantage of RX100 VII’s LCD screen are Vloggers and any video creators who are working in a single-person setup. Sony RX100 VII has a Tilting 3.00-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 921k dots. Tilting screens are more photography oriented while Fully articulated screens are highly preferred by videographers. Both the screen size and the screen resolution is up to the standards of this class.

Allerbeste autofocus

  • Consequently the RX100 VII can auto-focus in just 0.02 sec with a hybrid 357-point focal-plane phase-detection AF and 425-point contrast-detection AF system.
  • The Sony Cyber-shot RX100 VII has 3 different image quality settings available, with Extra Fine being the highest quality option.
  • Why take the time to load up a browser when Speedtest is right there on your desktop?
  • The 2019 edition retains the core specs of its predecessor – 20 megapixels, mm zoom lens, pop-up electronic viewfinder and a touchscreen LCD – but made it much faster.
  • The kit includes an RX100 VII, Shooting Grip (VCT-SGR1) which allows for easy recording and zooming right at your fingertips, Bracket with Accessory Shoe to attach the Microphone, and two Rechargeable Battery Packs (NP-BX1) .

We’ve spent some time shooting with the exciting new Sony RX100 VII compact camera. This is a sample super slow-motion movie at the quality setting of 1920×1080 pixels at 1000 frames per second. This is a selection of sample images from the Sony Cyber-shot RX100 VII camera, which were all taken using the 20 megapixel Fine JPEG setting.

As does the addition of the Real-time Tracking and Real-time Eye AF technologies, which have also been trickled down from Sony’s Alpha range of mirrorless cameras. The Sony RX100 VII shares the same tenacious ability to quickly lock-on to and track almost any fast-moving subject, and if it can detect a human or animal’s eye, even better. Seeing this technology in action on such a small camera is a real eye-opener (excuse the pun!). Real-time tracking and real-time eye AF for both humans and animals has been added, along with 4K movies through full pixel readout without any pixel binning and the welcome addition of a 3.5mm microphone jack for vloggers.

The new Sony RX100 VII sticks with the same 8.3x, mm lens and external design as the RX100 VI – the only change is the very welcome addition of a Mic socket for vloggers. Otherwise you’d be very hard-pressed to tell the two cameras apart when looking at them side-by-side, from any angle. The Mark VI version of the venerable RX100 camera series ushered in a rather radical change in approach with the adoption of a much longer mm lens, making it much more of a travel camera than its Mark V predecessor with its more limited 24-70mm zoom. In order to give you a better idea about the real life size of Sony RX100 VII, we have added an image of how it looks next to a credit card and an AA type battery. Check the comparison of specs of the latest cameras in this series side-by-side at Sony RX100 VII vs RX100 VA vs RX100 VI vs RX100 V vs RX100 IV and find the full list of the models in this series at the Sony RX100 Series Camera Timeline. Find out with free native apps that measure the speed of your broadband, cellular or Wi-Fi connection on each device.

This is a sample movie at the highest quality setting of 3840×2160 pixels at 25 frames per second. The Sony Cyber-shot RX100 VII’s 8x zoom lens offers a versatile focal range, as illustrated by these examples. You’ll need to budget for several of these to get through a serious day’s shooting, especially if you intend to make full use of the camera’s lightning fast shooting speeds. This version of the RX100 is also the first to feature a 3.5mm analogue input to connect an external microphone, found on the right-hand flank of the camera, something that has long been missing from this series of cameras. There’s no accessory port to mounting a mic, though, so you’ll ideally need to use a bracket or a lapel mic. On the back of the Sony RX100 VII is the exact same 3-inch, 921-dot resolution LCD touchscreen as on the MK VI camera, which can be tilted up to 90° downwards to shoot over crowds or up to 180° upwards for easier selfies.

Sony RX100 VII Alternatives in Mirrorless Cameras

  • Canon’s PowerShot G7 X Mark III is a brand new compact camera that offers a lot of bang for your buck, for both stills photographers and vloggers alike.
  • On the back of the Sony RX100 VII is the exact same 3-inch, 921-dot resolution LCD touchscreen as on the MK VI camera, which can be tilted up to 90° downwards to shoot over crowds or up to 180° upwards for easier selfies.
  • Other key improvements to the RX100 series video include enhanced Active SteadyShot image stabilisation for 4K video, claimed to be 8x more effective than on previous models, and the welcome addition of a 3.5mm microphone jack.
  • It provides easy access to the microphone jack and USB terminal which enables charging and image transfers without the need to remove the case.

You will still be surprised though that a compact camera like this one is as capable as much larger, more complex mirrorless one. One slight caveat is that you can’t zoom the lens while AF is engaged, limiting the camera’s suitability for some subjects. New for the 2019 update, though, is the type of sensor that the RX100 is now using. This is a newly developed 1.0-type stacked CMOS image sensor with DRAM storage, with the key word in that sentence being “stacked”. RX100 VII has a built-in Electronic viewfinder, making it easier to shoot in direct sunlight and in other situations where it might be difficult to view the LCD monitor. 100% coverage ensures that what you see in the viewfinder while shooting matches exactly what you will get later in your image, helping accurate framing your shots and minimizes the need for cropping images later.

High-Speed Video

Watching the Sony RX100 VII shoot at 20fps with continuous live view and continuous AF/AE tracking is pretty incredible, and one of the key reasons for buying this camera. It slightly slower than the 24fps offered by the Mark VI, but more usable thanks to the blackout free nature. Sony RX100 VII features built-in wireless (Wi-Fi) connectivity ( 802.11b/g/n with Bluetooth and NFC) which llc accounting: everything you need to know lets you transfer your photos directly to compatible devices without any physical connection. With its NFC feature, RX100 VII can communicate with devices such as smartphones which are also equipped with this technology by simply touching each other.Sony RX100 VII’s Bluetooth connectivity feature comes handy for connecting other devices that supports it. One other feature that we like is the ability to use our smartphone as a remote to control our RX100 VII.
